Feridun Zaimoglu (b. 1963) is among the most celebrated and controversial writers in German – a prolific and prize-laden experimental novelist, dramatist, and essayist, renowned for his readings. Two recent novels were longlisted for the German Book Prize: Isabel (2014), set in contemporary Berlin, about an ageing, destitute actress (who, like Zaimoglu, has Turkish parents), and Evangelio (2017) fictionalising the story of Martin Luther.
